Dental care

Dental care and dentistry.

Preventive dental care, dental radiography, and oral-health guidance for dogs and cats at Advocate Animal Health.

Advocate's approach

Care shaped around the individual.

At Advocate Animal Health, we believe that dental health is a vital part of your pet's overall health and quality of life. Dental disease is one of the most common medical conditions seen in dogs and cats, yet it is often overlooked until pets begin showing signs of pain, infection, or difficulty eating.

It is estimated that at least 80% of dogs age 3 and older have some degree of periodontal disease by age 3. Unfortunately, many pets suffer silently. Dental disease can lead not only to bad breath and painful teeth, but also to infection and inflammation that may affect the heart, liver, kidneys, and overall wellbeing.

01

Why dental care matters

Healthy teeth and gums are about much more than a clean smile. Proper dental care can help improve comfort and quality of life.

  • Reduce pain and discomfort
  • Prevent tooth loss
  • Improve appetite and quality of life
  • Reduce infection and inflammation
  • Detect fractured or damaged teeth early
  • Help pets live healthier, more comfortable lives
02

Advanced dental evaluation

Many dental problems exist below the gumline where they cannot be seen during a routine visual exam alone. For this reason, thorough dental evaluation is extremely important.

Advocate Animal Health offers digital dental radiography (dental X-rays) to evaluate the structures beneath the gumline and inside the jaw. Without dental radiographs, many painful dental conditions can go undetected.

  • Tooth root abscesses
  • Bone loss
  • Fractured teeth
  • Retained roots
  • Resorptive lesions in cats
  • Infection beneath the gums
03

Our philosophy on preventive dental care

We strongly believe in preventive care before dental disease becomes severe, as well as continued home care afterward to help maintain oral health long-term.

Our goal is to help pets maintain healthy mouths for as long as possible while minimizing discomfort and future complications.

  • Routine oral examinations
  • Professional dental cleanings
  • Dental radiographs
  • Home brushing guidance
  • Dental diets and chews
  • Long-term dental maintenance plans
04

Understanding the cost of dentistry

We understand that dental procedures can sometimes be expensive, especially when advanced disease, extractions, anesthesia, and imaging are involved. At Advocate Animal Health, we recognize these challenges and strive to work with families compassionately and realistically.

Our mission is to help accommodate each situation as much as possible in hopes of making a way for this valuable and often life-improving procedure to be performed.

05

Signs your pet may need a dental evaluation

Some pets show very subtle signs - and many show no obvious signs at all despite significant dental disease.

  • Bad breath
  • Difficulty eating or chewing
  • Dropping food
  • Pawing at the mouth
  • Red or bleeding gums
  • Loose or broken teeth
  • Facial swelling
  • Excessive drooling
  • Reluctance to chew toys or treats

At Advocate Animal Health, we are committed to advocating for both pets and their people through compassionate, practical, and thorough dental care.
